About Deborah Foundation 

Established in 2019, Deborah Foundation is a registered non-profit organization with a mission to improve the lives of children with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities through support in the areas of Health, Education and Policy Advocacy. Under the Deborah Foundation, Deborah Academy is one of a few schools in Ethiopia that offer inclusive education. We aim to create a safe learning environment that promotes diversity and tolerance for students with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. The academy aspires to be a hub for fostering the growth of successful, creative, and tolerant individuals.

Summary: Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the main classroom teacher in developing and implementing a program of activities that will promote the social, emotional, and physical development of each student in the classroom. The Assistant Teacher carries out their duties under the direction of the lead classroom teacher.

Responsibilities:

  • Getting the classroom ready for lessons
  • Helping children who need extra support to complete tasks
  • Helping teachers to plan learning activities and complete records
  • Supporting teachers in managing class behavior
  • Monitoring and supervising the children constantly.
  • Assisting the teacher in maintaining a safe and positive environment
  • Taking care of children with behavioral issues
  • Preparing daily reports, keeping attendance records, playing with the kids, helping them go asleep, and
    maintaining a safe atmosphere.
  • Carrying out administrative tasks
  • Ensure equipment and facilities are clean and safe.
  • In collaboration with the Main Teacher Observe, evaluate and record children’s social and academic
    progress.
  • Uphold the school code of conduct and all school policies, rules and procedures in a supportive and
    positive manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School and Special needs Head.

About You

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current educational and instructional methodologies and techniques
  • Bachelor degree in an educational or youth related field is preferred or Associate’s Degree in Early
    childhood Education or Child Development with 1-2 years’ experience
  • Previous experience working with students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of theories and practices of early child development
  • Specialization in Special Education would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of teaching practices for students with special needs.
  • Carry out daily tasks such serving meals,
