SNV, Netherlands Development Organization, is operating in Ethiopia since the 1970s. Currently, SNV Ethiopia is working in eight regional states and the two city administrations of Ethiopia, providing technical assistance and program implementation in Agriculture, WASH, and Energy Sectors. SNV is an open and learning organization that focuses on improving the lives of Ethiopian through a market based approach inclusive of women and youth. In its new Strategic Plan period (2019 – 2022), SNV will more explicitly aim for systems change including strengthening institutions and kick-starting markets that help many more to escape poverty beyond our projects. SNV Ethiopia with other consortia members consisting of Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) as the lead, Centre for People and Forests (RECOFTC), Land Equity International (LEI) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) has started implementing Transformative Land Investment (TLI) project to fill forementioned government and private sector gaps by building strong partnership with them. Hence, TLI is a multi-country Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) funded initiative in five target countries (Myanmar, Laos, Ethiopia, Ghana and Mozambique) countries that in recent years attracted considerable Land based Investors (LBIs).
Consultancy Objective
The purpose of LBIs needs assessment is to transforming existing LBIs from centralized monoculture-based investment models to inclusive business models that productively engage women, youth, and other vulnerable and marginalized groups.
Job Requirements
Interested consultant is expected to meet the following requirements:
- Demonstrated experience and track record working with LBIs/large scale enterprises in agriculture and forestry sectors within Ethiopia’s context.
- Experience in working with LBI/medium to large scale enterprise management and financing.
- Good understanding of Ethiopia’s land sector and customary land governance systems.
- Good understanding of responsible land-based investment standards such as the Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure (VGGT), and the Responsible Agriculture Investments (RAI).
- Conversant with environment and social safeguards in the LBI sector,
- Experienced in the use of similar methodology and approach proposed to fulfill the tasks stipulated in the ToR;
- Demonstrated ability to deliver well researched and high-quality reports within an agreed timeframe.

2% withholding tax will be deducted from the consultant fees at the source and will be paid by SNV – Ethiopia, assuming a TIN number and license can be provided.
