Job description
- We are seeking Q-Grader who will be responsible for evaluating coffee quality, ensuring consistency, and supporting the continuous improvement of our products. This position requires a deep understanding of coffee sensory analysis and quality grading to maintain the standards of specialty and commercial-grade coffees.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Coffee Quality Evaluation:
- Perform sensory evaluation of coffee samples, including fragrance/aroma, flavor, acidity, body, aftertaste, balance, and overall quality.
- Grade and assess green and roasted coffee beans using the specialty coffee Association ( SCA) standards.
- Conduct daily cupping sessions to evaluate and monitor the quality of coffee at various stages of production.
- Prepare and manage sample roasts for evaluation, ensuring consistency across batches.
- Record and document cupping scores and notes for reference and analysis.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all cupping results, quality control data, and product specifications.
- Report on trends and suggest improvements based on quality analysis.
- Provide feedback to stakeholders on quality trends and areas for improvement.
- Assist in managing inventory for green coffee samples and roasted coffee samples used for quality control.
- Communicate with the procurement team to ensure quality standards are met with each batch of raw coffee.
- Ensure compliance with international standards, including Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) grading standards.
- Stay updated on coffee grading and quality control trends and best practices.

Qualifications
- Certified Q Grader with a valid certification (required).
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in coffee quality control or a similar role in the coffee industry.
- Strong sensory evaluation skills with the ability to identify and describe coffee attributes accurately.
- Knowledge of SCA coffee grading standards and coffee processing techniques.
- Proficiency in data recording and basic computer skills for managing records.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and work well with a diverse team.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with Ethiopian coffees, especially from prominent coffee-growing regions.
- Knowledge of coffee roasting techniques and the ability to interpret how different roasting levels impact coffee quality.
- Familiarity with coffee quality control equipment and cupping software.
