Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) is an Ethiopian Development Organization established in 2005 and reregistered at the FDRE Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) with Certificate № 0321 under the Proc. No. 1113/2019. ECDD is working with other organizations to promote and facilitate the inclusion of persons with disabilities and disability issues in mainstream service delivery and development programs envisioning an Inclusive Ethiopia where persons with disabilities exercise the same rights and have access to the same services and opportunities enjoyed by other citizens.
ECDD has partnered with USAID to implement “Promoting Rights and Inclusion for Disability Empowerment (PRIDE)” from December 20, 2021, to April 30, 2027, with a major goal of the project, which is to increase the economic empowerment of youth with disabilities. The PRIDE project works with the MoLS and Regional TVET institutions, to demonstrate how TVETs can recruit, assess, support, and provide market-oriented vocational skills training to youth with disabilities. Community-Based Vocational Training (CBVT) opportunities will be provided in smaller towns, for youth with disabilities for on-the-job skills training at the community level in a non-institutional setting, using practicing local master craftsmen and women as trainers. The project will work with the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) and individual companies located in Industrial Parks, and with member companies of the Ethiopian Business and Disability Network (EBDN), to increase the number of employers employing persons with disabilities. To this end, the Communication and Knowledge Management Officer is responsible for planning, developing, and executing a variety of communications and, knowledge management in support of the PRIDE Project and other projects being implemented by ECDD.
Description of Tasks
The ECDD Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist reports to the ECDD MEL Director and is responsible for initiating, organizing, and managing all ECDD’s information communication and knowledge management activities. Specifically, the Specialist will:
- Implement the Branding and Marking Plan of the USAID-funded PRIDE Project and the Disability Inclusive Communications and Branding Strategy of ECDD.
- Lead both internal and external communications efforts, and contribute to the content development of Project materials, including learning, success stories, Facebook/LinkedIn Postings, Tweets, Presentations, Photography, Videography, Events Management, and Media Relations;
- Liaise between PRIDE project targets (beneficiaries), partners, project staff, and local service providers to build a strong bridge for the exchange of information and incorporate the project’s learning, results, and findings into the overall communications and activities of the project and the donor, USAID. Manage the generation and dissemination of knowledge products developed through project implementation and partnerships.
- Develop creative and effective content for web, social media, blogs, email, newsletters, and print material to reach and connect with target audiences.
- Manage the ECDD website content, upload content, and advise on the redevelopment of the website design, ensuring its accessibility.
- Develop key promotional messages in consultation with USAID AOR and ECDD for use in each social media.
- Prepare various public media materials, including information brochures, and media releases for distribution to various print and radio media.
- Support the production of advocacy materials for key priorities and events
- Maintain regular contact with project coordinators to ensure ongoing support to gather and provide communications content. Conduct field visits as appropriate to facilitate this information flow.
- Design, maintain, and track internal and external web-based knowledge management systems to facilitate knowledge sharing and engagement with a broad range of internal and external audiences as defined in the ECDD’s Communications and Engagement Plan.
- Ensure the dissemination of communication materials to relevant stakeholders and beneficiaries.
- Arrange for media coverage of various ECDD events, and ECDD participation in various media events.
- Work closely with ECDD Project staff to help identify project communication needs and how best to meet them, including through the use of regional radio.
- Suggest additional ways that ECDD can increase public awareness of its work and disability inclusion in general.
- Use the digital repository system (D-Space) to archive all media content produced and posted including photography; Assist in maintaining and strengthening the ECDD network of relations with CSOs, OPDs, government offices, and other partners.
- Assist the Ethiopian Business and Disability Network (EBDN) Coordinator to increase public awareness of EBDN, and publicly promote the employment of persons with disabilities.
- Work closely with the PRIDE Project Manager and the project team
- Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the ECDD MEL Director and/or Executive Director.
About You
Qualifications
1. University degree in journalism and communications, Public Relations, or other related fields;
2. Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in Media and Communications in the NGO, government, and private sectors. NGO experience is a plus;
3. A solid understanding of effective digital production and communications of digital content for a variety of target audiences;
4. Experience in managing websites, and social media platforms (Webinars, Facebook, Tweets, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, posts, etc.), packaging messages (case studies, and one-pagers) to disseminate learning and results to different stakeholders specifically USAID, implementing partners, and the Government of Ethiopia;
5. Experience in managing knowledge management systems;
6. Experience with SEO, Google Analytics, performance metrics, and analytics tools for social media, website, and email campaigns;
7. Experience in public communications;
8. Advanced computer software skills;
9. Great interpersonal skills and a team player;
10. Previous experience working with persons with disabilities is an asset;
11. Outstanding writing, speaking, and editorial skills in English Amharic, and other local languages.
