Background
Ethiopia has taken various measures before and after reporting COVID-19 as soon as the WHO labelled the disease as a global public health concern. National and subnational taskforces were established and led by higher health and sectorial officials and political leaders. Emergency operation centers were established and resourced to enable centers to provide basic services. Various advisory group emerged at the initial stage but later consolidated into one National Professional Advisory council. That COVID Advisory Council has made substantial contributions in coordinating expert discussion forums that led in to unified recommendations.
As the pandemic took the whole world by surprise, countries have struggled to cope with the multi-faceted challenges with various degree of success. Countries also learned from each other in many levels and showed unprecedented level of cooperation and partnership. The collateral effects of the pandemic response also exacerbated the complexity of the response at the country and global level. Some countries suffering more from the collateral damages. Cognizant of the challenges, the COVID Advisory Council in consultation with the MOH propose to assess the lessons learned in implementing the responses at the national and subnational levels. This assessment aims to document the lessons learned to enhance the country’s preparedness for similar emergencies in the future. It will also enables the country to more systematically respond to similar crisis in the future. Thus, Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH)/EPHA is looking for data collectors for this assessment.
Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities
The data collectors are responsible for collecting data through interviews/abstraction using structured questionnaire.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand the data collection tools.
- Secure consent from each study participant
- Collect data using the appropriate data collection tools during the data collection period as assigned by the supervisor
- Ensure completeness of the data collected
- Keeps / upload record of work completed
- Reviews error reports and respond promptly
- Performs other duties as assigned
Expected duration and working arrangement
- The entire assignment including training of survey team, pre-test, and field data collection are expected to be accomplished in 2 months (February – March/ 2021) – Conditional
- Implementing Institution: Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH) / EPHA

Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- BSc / MSc degree in public health, social sciences and related fields
- Data Collection experience
- Proven prior experience in collecting facility and community based survey data and error checking
- An adequate knowledge of interview techniques
- Able to generate proof of previous experience in Qualitative data collection
Skills required:
- Possess thorough knowledge of interviewing methods
- Proficiency in data collection – consent, recording and submitting
- Ability to do abstraction from medical records and registers
- Fluent in written and spoken English (Knowledge of multiple local languages is an advantage)
- Good at team work
- Willingness to travel to any of the regions for data collection
- Readiness to start the assignment immediately upon recruitment
