The Ethiopian Diabetes Association (EDA), established on January 23, 1984 G.C (1976 E.C), is the first patient-based association in Ethiopia. Its purpose is to provide a forum for diabetes patients to discuss prevention, share information, and access treatment. EDA has a vision to ensure excellence in diabetes prevention, education, care, and treatment services in Ethiopia, while advancing diabetes education and awareness, and promoting accessible and free diabetes medications, supplies, and technologies.

We are seeking to hire a qualified candidate for the following position:

Reports to: MEAL manager

Required Number: One

Employment Category: One-year contract with possible extension

Position Summary:

EDA is looking for a committed and energetic Data Officer to work in a high-impact, 4-year project: “Increasing accessibility of integrated diabetes and hypertension services in Ethiopia.” The Data Officer will support data management, digitalization, and reporting activities to strengthen diabetes and hypertension services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare data collection tools, including mobile data collection.

• Manage data entry of project-related activities.

• Maintain structured, secure electronic databases and ensure regular backups.

• Conduct data cleaning and validation.

• Handle system server management activities.

• Support health facilities in the use of DHIS 2/HMIS and digital patient data management apps with emphasis on diabetes/hypertension service activities.

• Participate in the training of HIT personnel.

• Contribute to the preparation of regular highlights and reports.

About You

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, statistics, information technology, public health, or related field.

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in the Ethiopian health sector.

• Exposure to digitalization (mobile data collection such as ODK, Kobo, CommCare).

• Demonstrated experience in database management software (SQL, DHIS 2).

• Strong MS Excel skills and familiarity with data visualization software (Power BI, Tableau).

• Experience in diabetes/hypertension programming is a plus.

• Experience in non-governmental organizations is considered an asset.

• High attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and commitment to data confidentiality and ethical standards.

• Fluent in English and Amharic.
