About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 11 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131  District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee  and 5871 Kebele Red Cross  committees.

Job Summary

Under the general direction and guidance of the Secretary General, the Deputy Secretary General for Resource Development  and Mobilization plans, organizes coordinates and controls Business Development and Marketing, Health and Pharmaceuticals, Center of Capacity Development for Humanitarian Affairs, Income Streams Development and Expansion initiatives, processes & tasks of the Society; develops policies and procedures, and revises existing policies & procedures  of resource development and mobilization process as deemed necessary; expands and manages the overall resource base of the Society by strengthening and exploiting existing assets, income generating multipurpose buildings, large scale fundraising events focusing on  high-yield domestic fund raising both at the federal and regional levels,  other income generating schemes of the Society; oversee & monitor research undertakings & identification & analysis investment opportunities;

  • Ensure full alignment of resource mobilization activities with priority of the national society; and
  • Advocate, promoting ERCS’s fundraising activities to potential donors and partners in resource mobilization.

  • Training in business leadership, strategic Management, resource mobilization, constituency mobilization and partnership building, communication skills, financial Management.

  • Manage relationships with key donors and stakeholders, including but not limited to:
  • Design and implement a strategic, results-oriented and coordinated approach to the mobilization of significant additional resources from movement and non-movement sources such as private sector organizations, international organizations, foundations or high net worth individuals to fund humanitarian activities, etc.
  • Actively liaise with internal and external partners in the implementation of resource mobilization plan and ensure systematic and transparent reporting on fundraising and related communication activities and results.
  • Ability to build networks and strategic alliances and maintain relationships with donors and internal partners with tact and sensitivity.

  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate timely reporting of results and successes to stakeholders
  • Reports regularly (written and verbally) to stakeholders on progress, challenges and changes made according to required funding and organizational protocol

Terms of employment: Permanent after probationary period 

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

  • Second degree in Business Management and Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, Development Studies 10 year work out of which 4/5 years on senior managerial position.
  • Willing to give voluntary service to the society with his/her own initiative.
