About the Job

Position Overview:

The Education Techical Assistance is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring educational support programs for vulnerable children served by PATH Ministries International. This role includes working closely with students, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to ensure that children at risk of dropping out of school receive the necessary support to succeed academically. The Education Techical Assistancewill also be responsible for organizing tutorial classes, tracking student attendance, and conducting educational assessments to promote improved learning outcomes and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

 Educational Program Design and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement educational support programs aimed at enhancing the academic performance and retention of vulnerable children in school.
  • Organize and facilitate tutorial classes and mentorship sessions for students at risk of dropping out.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school administrators to identify students who need additional academic support and create tailored intervention plans.
  • Plan and coordinate educational activities and events, such as workshops, study groups, and parent-teacher meetings, to engage parents and the community in supporting students’ education.

Student Support and Monitoring:

  • Track student attendance, academic performance, and behavior, and maintain accurate records of their progress.
  • Conduct regular home visits and communicate with parents or guardians to discuss students’ educational needs and challenges.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to students to address any academic, social, or personal issues affecting their learning.
  • Monitor the use and maintenance of educational materials and resources provided by PATH Ministries International.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of students’ educational needs and progress.
  • Implement tools and methods for assessing student learning, including tests, surveys, and observations.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for program adjustments.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on student performance, attendance, and program impact to the Program Manager.

Capacity Building and Training:

  • Provide training and support to tutors, and volunteer mentors on effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops for parents and caregivers on topics such as supporting children’s education at home, positive discipline, and the importance of education.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials and resources to support teaching and learning activities.

Community Engagement and Advocacy:

  • Build strong relationships with local schools, educational authorities, and community organizations to advocate for the educational needs of vulnerable children.
  • Participate in community outreach activities to raise awareness about the importance of education and encourage community support for the program.
  • Represent PATH Ministries International at educational forums, meetings, and events to share program updates and best practices.

Adult Education and Women Empowerment

  • Oversee the attendance and progress of women enrolled in adult education programs.
  • Track and document academic achievements and class attendance for adult learners.
  • Identify training needs for women within the empowerment program, organizing and facilitating relevant training sessions.
  • Gather and write success stories of women achieving significant milestones, highlighting their progress and achievements.

Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Program Manager and other program staff to ensure the smooth implementation of educational activities.
  • Collaborate with social workers, livelihood worker, and other support staff to address any social or behavioral issues that may affect students’ education.
  • Coordinate with the finance team to manage educational program budgets and ensure the availability of necessary resources.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed records of student attendance, academic progress, and any interventions provided.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports on program activities, achievements, and challenges to the Program Manager.
  • Document success stories and best practices to share with stakeholders and for organizational learning.

General Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or organizational leadership to support the mission and objectives of PATH Ministries International.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development by participating in relevant training and workshops.
  • Uphold the values and policies of PATH Ministries International in all interactions with students, families, and community members.

About You

  • Duty Station:
    • West Hararghe, Chiro Town
  • Contract Type:
    • 6-month contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and program funding.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in teaching, educational program management, or a similar role, preferably working with vulnerable children.
    • Strong skills in tracking, documenting, and reporting academic and program data.
    • Experience in organizing tutorial classes, remedial education, or extracurricular activities is highly desirable.
    • Experience with Speed School programs or alternative learning programs is highly preferred. This includes familiarity with accelerated learning techniques and approaches tailored to bridge learning gaps for out-of-school children to catch-up education.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of child development, learning principles, and educational assessment methods.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and community members.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to conduct assessments, analyze data, and prepare comprehensive reports.
    • Intermediate and above proficiency in the following computer skills:
      • Microsoft Word
      • Microsoft Excel
      • Microsoft PowerPoint
    • Ability to prepare field reports and write letters
    • Fluency in  Afaan Oromo and Amharic
    • Excellence in written English

      • Drinking alcohol, chewing chat, smoking, stealing property
      • Verbally or physically abusing staff, volunteers, guests, or beneficiaries. This includes the express prohibition of hitting beneficiary children for any reason.
  • Work Environment:
    • Based in field office with regular travel to schools, student homes, and community centers as required.
    • May require occasional evening or weekend work, depending on the needs of the beneficiaries and program activities.
  • Salary and Benefits
    • Gross Salary up to 30,000 ETB
      • Salary is fixed to current USD exchange rate
