The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131  District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee  and 5871 Kebele Red Cross  committees.

ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.

Job Summary

The Finance & Admin officer will be an essential part of the Danish Red Cross (DRC) Ethiopia Country Office team (currently consisting of Country Manager, three delegates, Country Finance Officer, and driver) integrated into Ethiopia Red Cross Society (ERCS).

The role of Finance & Admin Officer shall support the DRC and ERCS teams in effective financial management of our project portfolio which has a diverse funding stream. Moreover, the role will ensure efficient, effective, and timely administration and running of the Country Office.

Key performance areas 

  • All tasks will be performed under the supervision of the DRC Country Manager and secondarily under the supervision of the DRC Country Finance Officer
  • Assist the country finance team and delegates with quality control of monthly, quarterly & annual financial report preparation.
  • Assist the country finance team and delegates with quality control on project budget preparation & review.
  • Assist the country finance team and delegates with preparation, quality control and prompt processing of cash requests.
  • Posting of expenses in DRC accounting system.
  • Establish asset management & inventory for Country Office.
  • Facilitate of travel & working advances and follow up on the settlements.
  • Prepare Payment of expenditure and make sure all needed supporting documents are attached.
  • Manage monthly petty cash, bank transaction & reconciliation.
  • Regular follow-on payments for vehicle, office supplies & utilities.
  • Liaise with ERCS on delegate resident permit, apartment rent and related tasks.
  • Facilitate visa, airline, hotel booking for DRC Visitors.
  • Ensure strict adherence to new & existing administrative system both in HQ & Co Office.
  • Assist with the planning of meetings & workshops.
  • Any other related tasks assigned by Country Manager/Country Finance office.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Accounting or Business Administration – related field
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in administration/finance management

Knowledge, skills, & Competences

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High degree of integrity, proactive approach, and discretion in personal conduct.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and (preferred) Accounting Systems.
  • Structured and skilled in managing time and task to meet deadlines.
  • Intercultural understanding and ability to work in a team.
