Division Summary
IDG’s International Education Division supports education development around the world by strengthening education policy, management and practice in order to achieve measurable improvement in teaching and learning. From our well-established reputation in education system strengthening, to innovative work in early grade assessment and learning, RTI is improving education quality, relevance and efficiency through implementation of projects funded by USAID, The LEGO Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and other donors and clients.
Project Summary
The Primary Education in Crisis Activity (PECA), funded by USAID/Ethiopia and the LEGO Foundation, aims to address the critical educational needs of children in Ethiopia. The purpose of this Activity is: improved learning outcomes, wellbeing, and systems resilience for the most vulnerable primary school age children affected by crisis in Ethiopia.
Achievement of the purpose is dependent on success in the areas of the following three Intermediate Results (IRs)
- IR 1: Improved federal and regional capacity to prepare for, coordinate and oversee play based targeted instruction during acute crisis through to recovery
- IR 2: Educators, school and classroom environments, formal and informal, have improved capabilities to support children’s holistic foundational skills and wellbeing
- IR 3: Communities and caregivers have improved capabilities promote children’s holistic foundational skills, wellbeing, and resilience
Position Summary
RTI is seeking a qualified Finance Manager to support our activity in Ethiopia. The Finance Manager will oversee financial management, reporting, and operational support services while ensuring compliance with USAID, LEGO and RTI policies. This position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and reports to the Finance and Administration Director.
Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Oversee financial management functions, including accounting and reporting, to ensure compliance with the terms of the program agreement.
- Supervise the Accountant and provide guidance to ensure accurate financial operations.
- Manage the preparation and timely submission of financial statements, cost accounting reports, and projections to RTI, LEGO and USAID.
- Ensure strict adherence to RTI, USAID and LEGO financial policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate and consolidate monthly, quarterly, and annual expenditure projections, preparing accurate pipeline estimates for the project.
- Support the Finance and Administrative Director in overseeing the finance and accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Provide mentorship and training to staff, strengthening capacity in financial management and reporting.
- Implement and oversee financial procedures, including cash management, vendor payments, and budgeting, to ensure the timely and accurate disbursement, accounting, and reporting of project funds.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard project finances and mitigate risks.
- Perform additional tasks as needed.
About You
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience in financial management for international donor-funded projects.
- Experience in managing USAID and/or LEGO-funded projects is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in accounting, financial planning and management, and procurement.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks financial software is preferred.
- Strong managerial experience and team leadership skills.
- Excellent analytical and organizational abilities to manage complex financial systems.
- High attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in English (verbal and written) is required.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Ethiopia as needed.
- A test may be required as part of the interview process.
