Brief Description of the project/ unit
As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development policy objectives. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes.
In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the commission of the Ethiopian Government and other international donors.
GIZ, on behalf of the German government, is implementing various energy projects in Ethiopia with the aim towards strengthening the energy sector transformation in cooperation with private and public sector partners, collaborating support a sustainable supply of energy
services to lower-income households, social institutions, and small to medium-sized enterprises. This is intended to contribute to Ethiopia’s national strategies (National Electrification Plan, Growth & Transformation Plan, Climate Resilient Green Economy) to
specifically:
- Support a sustainable supply of energy services to lower-income households, social facilities
- as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME);
- Create sustainable markets for renewable energy technologies in cooperation with public and private sector stakeholders; and
- Support the private sector in the Ethiopian energy sector and promote investments in off-grid renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The service tendered is for the project
• Energising Development (EnDev) Ethiopia – a multi-donor funded global partnership project by the German, Dutch, Swiss and Norwegian Government, with co-funding from the European Union (EU).
EnDev works in close cooperation with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MOWE) as its main political partner in the implementation of the project activities. EnDev Ethiopia has trained over 800 small-scale service providers, who produce and sell energy-efficient cookstoves as well as retail solar systems in more than 310 districts (“intervention zones”) in Ethiopia.
Within this context, the Monitoring and Evaluations (M&E) unit under EnDev collects different data from these service providers via external consultants and project teams as well as regional associations, and this collected data is managed and analyzed to track the project’s progress over time.

Responsibilities
The Intern shall support the implementation of effective verification and validation for the sales data to be received in 2025.
The Intern has the following major responsibilities:
- Review and cross-check sales reports submitted by sales companies against supporting documents where available.
- Conduct spot checks on randomly selected reports to validate the accuracy and reliability of reported data.
- Track discrepancies, suggest corrective measures, and document actions taken.
- Conduct verification activities via phone, field and desk review for business-as-usual EnDev Core sales.
- Support verification in Results-based-financing interventions.
- Compile findings from verification activities into structured reports, including detailed observations, pattern analyses, and actionable recommendations.
- Prepare and present findings in a structured manner, tailored for management review and decision-making.
- Assist in the organization and maintenance of a repository for ad hoc reports and related documentation and in accordance with data privacy standards.
- Help plan and coordinate logistics for field verification visits (e.g., travel arrangements, fieldwork materials, schedules).
- Draft post-field visit reports summarizing key findings, challenges, and proposed next steps.
- Assist in the design and administration of M&E tools (such as surveys, checklists, and feedback forms) in accordance with EnDev standards.
- Liaise with Regional Energy Bureaus / regional associations to validate sales data when applicable.
- Participate in data collection, entry, and basic analysis for M&E activities, as needed.
- Support other M&E activities assigned by the Head of Project or M&E team.
- Participate actively in team meetings, training sessions, and workshops.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualification requirements are university degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Marketing Management, Economics or other related fields from accredited academic institution.
- The candidate is preferred to be recently graduated (no longer than two years).
- Ability to conduct desk research, information gathering, and presentation.
- Some knowledge on the energy sector is valued.
- Fluency in English and Amharic, strong qualities in interpersonal relationships and communication skills, ability and willing to work in a diverse cultural setting. Proficiency in other local languages is an asset.
Knowledge in digital technologies, Microsoft applications (MS Word, Excel, Power Point) and knowledge of office 365 and virtual meeting technologies is of advantage
