Natural Resources Stewardship Programme

Brief description of the project

The GIZ-implemented Natural Resources Stewardship Programme (NatuReS) enables private sector, public sector, and civil society actors to work together in multi-stakeholder partnerships. Using the stewardship approach, these partnerships collaboratively develop and implement solutions for the sustainable management of natural resources, addressing shared environmental and economic risks, particularly in areas facing extreme resource use pressure. NatuReS promotes inclusive decision-making, contributing to a Just Transition towards a socially equitable and environmentally sustainable economy. The programme is currently active in Ethiopia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic intern to support the NatuReS programme team in Ethiopia for a period of six months. The intern will gain valuable experience in international development cooperation, focusing on sustainable natural resource management, multi-stakeholder partnerships, knowledge management, and communications within the context of Ethiopia’s development landscape.

Responsibilities and Duties

Key Responsibilities

• Knowledge Management and Documentation

  • Document lessons learned and best practices emerging from NatuReS stewardship partnerships in Ethiopia for internal learning and sharing across NatuReS countries.
  • Maintain and organize programme documentation within the GIZ knowledge management systems (DMS).
  • Contribute to writing compelling stories and case studies showcasing the socio-ecological transformation impacts of NatuReS partnerships.

• Event organization and Communication Support

  • Assist in developing and designing communication materials (e.g., factsheets, presentations).
  • Contribute content for the NatuReS website and blog, potentially through interviews with partners to document success stories.
  • Provide logistical and organizational support for workshops, trainings, and events related to NatuReS partnerships.
  • Programme Support
  • Assist with data gathering and compiling information for programme activities.
  • Provide general administrative and logistical support to the NatuReS Ethiopia team as needed.

Other duties/additional tasks

  • Support the team in terms of facilitation in logistics and administrative issues
About You

Qualifications

Master’s degree in environmental science/management/planning, geography, development studies, project management or any other relevant qualification

Professional experience

Previous experience during industrial attachment or internship in relevant field is an added advantage

Experience in working in an intercultural setting and with communication to several stakeholder groups

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite products (e.g., InDesign, Illustrator) for communication material design is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable development, environmental stewardship, circular economy, or development cooperation.
  • Understanding multi-stakeholder partnership approaches is beneficial.
