Purpose of the Job

To assist in maintenance and repair tasks while learning the fundamentals of mechanical systems, tools, and safety practices. The Junior Mechanic works under supervision and develops skills through hands-on training and mentorship. Deliver skilled work in the installation, maintenance and calibration of equipment’s and instruments by monitoring, troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, installing, operating, and testing or otherwise services automated, electromechanical, or electro-pneumatic equipment in support of machine operations. The role is devised to assist in unleash machine capability and reduce down-time and related losses towards the end goal of producing iconic beverage products that continuously exceed the quality, safety & environmental standards and targets prescribed in BGI Ethiopia’s food safety and QSHE policy.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identify Mechanical equipment installed in the assigned area together with their corresponding technical specification.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices & equipment; using hoists, hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts to define the type of failure and document in maintenance management system
  • Involve in learning of Diagnoses mechanical parts & equipment malfunctions and makes timely repairs and/or adjustments; monitors repaired equipment to ensure proper function.
  • Assist the installation of mechanical equipment and machinery, which may involve numerically controlled equipment hydraulics, pneumatic, and electromechanical gears, etc following technical drawings and documents of the OEM,
  • Participate in machinery and mechanical equipment maintenance, adjustment, and monitoring to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects to drive RCA analysis across the operation.
  • Support in the audit and performance mechanical components, devices & installation with service providers, OEM and method team and other internal procedures like safety related machine guarding assessment, etc as required by the plant.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, and visual inspections.
  • Provide technical and organizational assistance to the other functions and the sites / workshops on demand for major maintenance work, especially to lab team, operators, mechanics, and workshop team.
  • Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance routines together with method team
  • Attend technical training sessions and continuously develop knowledge of machinery
  • Involve in the maintenance of 5S standards, housekeeping and lean management in the workshops and every equipment operation and operating area by consistently conducting routine checks and corrections according to set standard
  • Maintain records of preventive, corrective and other maintenance works including technicians and operators involved, spares used, time taken and outcome/ remark using the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the line manager
About You
  • The position requires a minimum of BSC degree Mechanical/Electromechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering or General Mechanics or Industrial/ Manufacturing Technology or related field of studies.
  • Minimum 0-1 years’ experience.
  • Technical skill in mechanical hand tools use and interpretation of technical drawings.
  • Troubleshooting of mechanical equipment through diagnosis.
  • Teamwork and communication skill.
  • Good English writing/reading/listening/speaking.
