Vacancy Announcement for Nurse
Objective of the Programme:
WHO Ethiopia supports Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH)/Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) efforts to strengthen the capacity to establish the minimum IHR core capacities. In this regard, the capacity of public health emergency management system of EPHI and Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) will be built for early detection, confirmation and response to Public Health and Nutrition Emergencies and events of national or international concern. WHO is planning to recruitment and develop roster list of surge teams to be trained before deployment. The deployment will be demand based supporting the national or regional Rapid Response Teams (RRTs).
Description of Duties
Under the overall direction of the WHO Country Representative and direct supervision of Incident Manger/Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) team lead, the nurse will perform the following duties:
- Supports health and nutrition teams in selected facilities to determine patient and family needs; developing health care and treatment plans: Providing nursing services and treatments; referring patients with social and emotional problems to other community agencies. Monitors availability of supplies in priority facilities by verifying inventories and verifying receipt.
- Helps the community health care team by coordinating assessment, planning, and providing of needed health and related services; participating incoordination meetings with regional and national health counterparts, and representatives of other agencies.
- Strengthen Quality improvement and outcomes by studying, evaluating, and recommending changes in processes, implementing changes in line with MoH/WHO guidelines and best practices.
- Handles emergencies in close collaboration with the Medical and security service teams including on call for emergency response and available 24/7 and assist in offering emergency nursing services out of the office.
- Provides guidance and improve practices for occupational health and safety:
- for protecting occupational health and safety in WHO operated/led workplaces – offices, field missions, facilities and international medical teams
- Carry out occupational health and safety risk assessment of WHO operated/led workplaces and monitor of compliance, and prepare related reports
- Responsible for dispensing of travel kits, malaria prevention tablets, mosquito nets and hand sanitizer, and replenish supplies accordingly.
- Assist in the coordination of multi-agency/sectoral collaborative initiatives to reduce risk from exposure and infection to high risk pathogens and strengthen occupational health and safety in health care facilities and other high-risk work settings.
- Initiate and/or support/strengthen scientific documentation of response efforts and activities in line with WHO global best practice including documenting actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and other relevant records.

- Performs any other duties as required by the supervisors
Required Qualification
Education
Essential: first degree in Nursing from an accredited/recognized institution or organization;
Desirable: Master’s level degree in Public Health or Nursing.

Experience
Essential: at least five years of practical experiences in health programmes with healthcare facilities.
Desirable: Experience in nursing programmes within humanitarian emergency settings. Experience working with UN/WHO or other large international organizations.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and fluency in the working language of the country

Additional Information
- Type of contract-Special Service Agreement.
- Duration – For six months initially with possibility of extension.

- Annual remuneration: NOC step 1 as per UN salary scale which will be USD 2,323/month payable in ETB at the prevailing UN exchange rate.
