About the Job

Position summary:

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of the Cancer Awareness and Support Project, ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s objectives. This role involves coordinating activities across awareness campaigns, patient care, child education support, and elderly care, while managing partnerships with stakeholders (hospitals, government bodies, CSOs, schools, and communities). She /he is also responsible for program operation, budget management, project initiation, project development and resource mobilization initiatives by identifying potential sources and strategies of mobilizing the resources for the smooth operation of the Foundation.

Key Responsibilities

Program Planning and Implementation

  • Develop and manage detailed annual and quarterly work plans, in line with the Foundation’s strategic objectives.
  • Ensure timely execution of activities per the proposals and strategic direction of the organization including but not limited to: cancer awareness, medical support, education assistance for children, and care for the elderly.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess activity progress and quality of services provided.

Stakeholder and Partnership Management

  • Maintain active collaboration with key partners: the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, public hospitals (e.g., Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital), CSOs, schools, and media partners.
  • Facilitate signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and other partnership agreements with key partners and monitor compliance.
  • Participate at technical meetings, forums, and coordination platforms to advocate for cancer policy integration.

Budget and Financial Management

  • Collaborate with the Finance and Admin Coordinator to manage activity budgets.
  • Track expenditures against budget plans, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Flag and resolve budgetary variances or implementation bottlenecks.

Project Development and Resource Mobilization

  • Lead the design of new program /project initiatives and proposal developments.
  • Identify funding opportunities from local and international donors /grants, foundations, and private sectors /CSR partnership.
  • Prepare concept notes, proposals, and donor engagement materials to support fundraising efforts.
  • Mobilize in-kind resources (medical supplies, school materials) through community/private-sector partnerships.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning (MERL)

  • Monitor project outputs and outcomes in alignment with the M&E framework.
  • Lead base-line, mid-term and final evaluations to assess project feasibility and effectiveness.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality narrative and financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
  • Ensure compliance with donor and government reporting requirements.
  • Document lessons learned, best practices, and success stories for internal and external dissemination.
  • Support and contribute the development of impact reports, case studies, and public communications.

Other Duties:

  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director, in alignment with the Foundation’s mission and program objectives.
  • Address emerging program needs and contribute to organizational priorities as required.

About You

A. Education

  • Master’s /Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Project Management, or related fields. Master’s degree is preferred and an asset.

B. Experience

  • At least 5/7 years of progressive work experience in program /project coordination, preferably in NGOs, health or social development sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multi-sectoral projects (health, education, social protection) is an asset.
  • Proven ability in resource mobilization, donor engagement, or grant writing.

C. Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of cancer prevention and support program.
  • Sound knowledge of community-based approaches, gender sensitivity, and vulnerable group protection.
  • Proficient in planning, budgeting, reporting, and use of MERL tools.
  • Excellent command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with digital data tools is a plus.

D. Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong leadership, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to the values of compassion, dignity, and equity in serving vulnerable populations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, Amharic and Afan Oromo.
