KEY JOB PURPOSE

 Monitor, coordinate, and manage compliance to slaughterhouse quality assurance, health, and safety activities to ensure products, services, and the work environment meets the required operating requirements in terms of quality/food safety and OHS, in support of the achievement of business objectives.

 The QA Head is required to:

  • Do a walk-through of the lab, work stations, and the plant on a daily basis to monitor a range of operational compliances, housekeeping, and work environment.
  • Support continuous improvement of best practice, and gather and share learnings with the slaughterhouse team, process owners, and process areas wherever possible.
  • Demonstrate a high level of ability to identify and resolve problems and prevent recurrence wherever possible. This includes the ability to determine root causes and symptoms of problems, and make sound decisions in the resolution.

 ORGANISATIONAL CHART

 The quality assurance head is a member of the slaughterhouse middle management team and is supervised by the slaughterhouse leadership and technically will report to the central quality and food safety head. The role is responsible for driving all activities related to quality assurance and OHS, and with ensuring that company’s quality and food safety policies are effectively implemented and practiced for delivering best products and services at all times and continually improve the performance.

  Describe the level of interaction within and outside of the company as well as the nature and purpose of the interaction.

 Interacts with all slaughterhouse team members and management as well as the system team on a daily basis. Escalates QA issues to Quality/Food Safety Head or slaughterhouse managers when required. Ensures all production processes align with company’s quality and food safety requirements.

 KEY OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Build and manage strategic QA understanding

  • Understand the meat processing techniques/science/requirements and management systems in order to advise production management on possible issues on the quality of the product
  • Authorities to correct / manage non-compliances inline within established procedures and operating requirements
  • Escalate quality issues to the leadership and Quality & Food Safety Head when necessary and whenever required
  • Ensure the alignment of quality control with the Supply Chain Way principles and work practices
  • Update and follow operating requirements as per the integrated management systems in place
  • Will perform any quality, food safety, and or OHS related activity when told to do by the supervisor

 Drive quality assurance improvement in the slaughterhouse and plant operations

  • Interpret standards, requirements and specifications for the relevant environment e.g., processing lines and units, water treatment, & final product
  • Identify non-conformances and communicate to relevant personnel for corrective action
  • Conduct statistical process control (SPC) studies according to the procedure and tools

 Maintain safety, health and environment standards

  • Comply with safe working procedures / signage and standards
  • Propose personal protective equipment and use and maintain this in accordance with procedures and legislation
  • Carry out work according to relevant Environment, Health and Safety standards
  • Apply knowledge of company commitment and priorities on Sustainable Development issues as well as local targets and initiatives to identify opportunities for action
  • Make a personal contribution, and encourage slaughterhouse team members to make a tangible difference in achieving quality and food safety and sustainability targets

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum requirement: Doctor of Veterinary medicine or related field.
  • Experience: Six years of relevant work experience in meat processing facilities out of which, least 3 years of managerial exposure in a quality assurance role.
