The Role
We are seeking a competent and experienced Rig Mechanic to support drilling operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing drilling rigs and associated equipment. The Rig Mechanic will ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of drilling equipment while minimizing downtime and supporting production targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on drilling rigs and related equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and diesel engine faults.
• Conduct routine inspections and identify potential equipment failures before breakdowns occur.
• Repair and replace defective components, including hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, hoses, compressors, and powertrain systems.
• Perform field breakdown repairs and emergency maintenance as required.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment service reports.
• Ensure drilling rigs are maintained according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and availability.
• Ensure compliance with company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and safe work procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in workshops and field locations.
• Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
• Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree in Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Trade certification in Heavy Equipment Maintenance or Diesel Mechanics is preferred.
Experience:
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience maintaining and repairing drilling rigs in mining, exploration, construction, or related industries.
Technical Skills:
• Experience working with hydraulic and diesel-powered drilling equipment.
• Experience in remote sites, industrial operations, or mining environments is an advantage.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and hydraulic diagrams.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Other Requirements:
- Remote site experience within the mining industry is an added advantage.
- Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and compassion.
- Adaptable with strong physical stamina.
