Job Purpose

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for estimating and monitoring project costs, preparing tender documents, analyzing financial risks, advising on procurement strategies, conducting cost analysis, preparing bills of quantities, managing project budgets, preparing valuations, assessing variations and compiling final accounts to ensure that projects are completed within budget and to the required quality standards.

Position Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Reports To: Engineering Cost & Contract Head

Duty Station: Addis Ababa Head Office

Salary & Benefits: Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects based on materials, labor and equipment requirements.
  • Create detailed bills of quantities (BOQ) to accurately quantify and price the materials, labour and equipment needed for a project.
  • Monitor project costs, track expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities to ensure projects stay within budget.
  • Assist in the procurement process by sourcing and obtaining competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Review and administer contracts, assess variations and negotiate changes to ensure adherence to contractual terms and conditions.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Analyze financial risks and propose risk mitigation strategies to protect the project’s financial interests.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, consultants and project stakeholders to address queries, resolve disputes and provide regular updates on project cost status.
  • Prepare regular cost reports, including cost forecasting, cash flow projections and financial summaries, to keep senior management informed of project financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards and industry best practices in all cost-related activities.
  • You will work closely with clients, architects, engineers, contractors and other stakeholders Strong analytical, numerical and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
  • Perform any other relevant tasks as delegated and required by the company.

Educational Qualifications

  • MSc. /BSc. Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology and Management or other related fields.

Professional Experience

  • 6 years’ experience in building construction out of this 3 years as a Quantity Surveyor
