About the Job

Elibat is an emerging board-led civil society organization established in 2012 E.C by young women, officially registered under the Federal Civil Society Agency in 2013 E.C. Elibat is a local civil society that has been contributing towards the accessibility of the Ethiopian justice system that is currently entangled with a myriad of human rights-related problems. It works towards addressing the accessibility and quality of the legal system and more specifically the criminal justice system that still has a long way to go in addressing the different interests of victims’ such as accessibility of free legal and psychological aid complemented with rehabilitation. Furthermore, it has been facilitating pathways to society, ultimately creating vigilant citizens within the country who are defenders of their rights as conscious citizens.

Currently, Elibat is implementing a project entitled Improving the Rights of Incarcerated in Correctional Facilities in Addis Ababa, with financial support from CSIF through Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR).

 The project aims to improve the human rights situation of women incarcerated in the main correctional facilities in Addis Ababa, namely Kaliti and Klinto.

To successfully implement the project and improve the human rights knowledge of prisoners, Elibat is looking for a qualified trainer who will facilitate or provide two days of training on interactive human rights for selected women inmates incarcerated in Kaliti and Kilinto correctional facilities of Addis Ababa.

 

Objectives of the training: –

  • Providing women prisoners with training on human rights and related issues is a critical step in protecting their fundamental human rights. This training will help ensure that prisoners are aware of their basic human rights and can use different self-advocacy mechanisms to exercise their rights.  The following specific objectives are expected from the training.
  • Improve the human rights knowledge of incarcerated women
  • Women prisoners will be aware of different safe reporting mechanisms of human rights violations and gender-based violence
  • The capacity of women prisoners to use various self-advocacy mechanisms will be improved
  • The trained Women prisoners will be able to defend their rights and the rights of other inmates.

Scope of the work: – 

  • The training will be conducted for two consecutive days at each prison center. The trainer must cover or incorporate the following major issues during the training sessions.
  • Human rights principles and practices related to the rights of prisoners in general and women prisoners in particular.
  • National and international laws relating to the fair treatment of prisoners
  • Self-advocacy and Safe reporting mechanisms of human rights violations and gender-based violence
  • Possible mechanisms /strategies for ensuring the human rights of prisoners in general and women inmates in particular

Deliverables: – 

  • Work plan for the undertakings of the training including approaches/methodologies of facilitation
  • Evaluation of the works of the trainer based on evaluation forms received from the participants
  •  Facilitation of the training
  • Preparation of training material in the form of a PowerPoint Presentation- which shall be subject to approval by the donor.
  • Preparation of pre-and post-training assessments should be prepared by the trainer as part of the training report.
  • Final report on the implementation of the task after finishing the training
  • Soft copy of all presentations and support training materials

Elibat’s responsibility: –

  • Review and approve the work plan submitted by the trainer
  • Arrange training venue
  • Call the participants for the training and inform the purpose and objectives of the training at the beginning of the training
  • Provide all the necessary information as demanded by the trainer that related to the work
  • Effect the trainer fee based on the agreement to be signed with the trainer

Participants: – 

  • A total of Fifty (50) women prisoners 25 women from each of the two prison centers, Kaliti & Kilinto, are expected to attend the training.

Date and venue: –

  • The training will be conducted for two consecutive days at each of the prison centers tentatively at the end of July 2024. The training venue will be arranged in the compounds of each of the prison centers, i.e. 2 days of training for the 25 participants will be organized at Kaliti and another two days of training on similar topics will be held at Kilinto for the rest of the 25 participants.

About You

Qualification (requirement): – 

  • A minimum LLB degree from a recognized university
  • Demonstrated experience and success in delivering similar training
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including proven experiences in training/workshop facilitation
  • Previous work experience and service with prison facilities is an advantage
