Oromia and Somali Region
Background
Reach for Change is a non-profit non-governmental international organization headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. The organization is operational in 11 countries across the globe out of which three countries are in Africa. Reach for Change was registered in Ethiopia as a foreign organization in 2015 with registration number 3419 with the aim to positively impact the lives of young women and children in Ethiopia by building the capacity of local social entrepreneurs.
This Project with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), aims to bolster the resilience of disaster-affected communities in the Oromia and Somali regions of Ethiopia through targeted off-farm livelihood activities. The complex humanitarian landscape, characterized by climate change impacts, conflicts, and economic hardships, has severely affected vulnerable populations, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs), women, and youth. Reach for Change (RFC) plans to provide entrepreneurial training and enhance access to financial resources for these groups, empowering them to launch small-scale businesses. This initiative aligns with the shared objective of improving socio-economic standards and facilitating durable solutions for communities facing displacement, thereby supporting their integration or return.
Based on the above the program aims to contract qualified bidders to do the translation of the training curriculums into Somali language of the training curriculum/Modules
Purpose
Reach for Change (RFC) has developed a concise, practical, and culturally relevant entrepreneurship training curriculum in English, Amharic, and Afan Oromo. This curriculum aims to equip young and women entrepreneurs with the skills needed to establish sustainable on-farm businesses.
The consultant will adapt this curriculum to suit the specific needs of off-farm businesses in Oromia and Somali Regions, focusing on women and youth entrepreneurs. Once adapted, the curriculum will be translated into Somali.
Objective
The overall objective of the curriculum Adaptation and translation is to help participants develop real entrepreneurial skills that can be applied instantly to an early business prototype created and some sales (or potential sales) registered by the entrepreneur. Homework exercises ensure that participants make progress on their actual business. The objectives of the consultancy are:
Phase-1
- Adopt training curriculum modules from the existing On-farm sector to an Off-farm module to fit the project thematic area and SMEs.
Phase-2
- Translate training curriculum modules from the existing language into Somali. Which includes a total session of 6 in the training module.
Phase -3
- Adopt the standard PowerPoint presentation with the translated into Somali curriculum for training delivery.
Scope of work
The required Adaptation and Translation will be produced from the English language training modules developed by the RFC curriculum team to meet the objectives of the training modules and Translate the training curricula to the Somali version.
Responsibilities of the consultant
- The consultant is responsible for the overall organization and development of the curriculum adaptation and translation.
- Adopt the examples and images relevant and relatable to the region if needed.
- Produce the deliverables with the agreed timeline allocated and agreed upon.
- Present the curriculum content translation/ adaptation to be approved by the client
- Produce the standard PowerPoint presentation translated into Somali.
- Engage the client with a progress report.
- Make adjustments as per client feedback.
Duration
The timeframe for Adapting and translating into the Somali version will be two (2) weeks from the date of an official agreement signed between RFC Ethiopia and the consultant firm.
Deliverables and Schedule
- Adopted Afan Oromo Version of the Module
- Translated Somali version for the modules
- Adopted and translated Afan Oromo and Somali versions for the presentation
Budget
Bidders are required to provide a full-cost proposal.
Intellectual Property
All information related to this training curriculum will remain the property of Reach for Change. Except for this assignment, the information will not be disclosed to the public nor used in any way.
About You
Required Qualifications and Experience
- The group of experts Minimum of 5 years of experience in translation at national and international level standards.
- Must have proven human resource capacity for each of the areas (script translation)
- Well-equipped and with excellent technical competencies to ensure smooth and high-quality translation.
- Demonstrated experience in translating training curriculum and documents
- Experience in translating training content related to entrepreneurship development
- Excellent translation and editing skills in English and Somali languages
- Track record of successful completion of past assignments (previous Somali language translations will be preferable)
