Currently, Ethiopia is set to have a comprehensive national dialogue which is expected to convene to address a broad set of issues. As part of this effort to build national consensus, Ethiopia ratified the proclamation for the establishment of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, Proclamation No. 1265/2021. Considering the positive roles CSOs can play to ensure women’s representation in the Ethiopian national dialogue, variety of CSOs has established a coalition by the name “Coalition for Women’s Voice in the National Dialogue” aimed at promoting gender inclusivity in every stage of the national dialogue process.

The Coalition for Women’s Voice in the National Dialogue was established on 16 March 2022 with the aim to ensure women’s meaningful representation in the forthcoming Ethiopian National Dialogue process and to ensure that the process responds to and addresses Ethiopian women’s needs, perspectives, priorities, and aspirations. With over 45 member civil society organizations, the Coalition operates with seven steering committee members and a secretariat, i.e., TIMRAN. The Coalition finds it necessary to form an independent national dialogue team to look after the Coalition’s activities since it has an exclusive mission to work towards gender inclusive national dialogue. The team will be accountable to the Secretariat, the Steering Committee, as well as the Coalition itself as it will be mandated to carry out the day-to-day activities of the Coalition.

Project Background

TIMRAN, in partnership with the Irish Aid, is going to hire a graphic designer to develop the logo and visual identities associated with the logo of the Coalition.

Since the “Coalition for Women’s Voice at the National Dialogue” is newly formed, it needs its own identity and logo that enables the coalition implement its activity separately. The visual identity will be used in social media campaigns, position statements and other related activities to create a sense of uniqueness for the Coalition. The visual identities will include uniform templates for PowerPoint presentations, print media usage and social media posts.

With a major objective of women’s meaningful inclusion in the national dialogue, these documents pave the way for the coalition to become visualized by numerous, easily identifiable, structured, and follow clear procedures of assignment. The draft work will be subject to revision by the Steering Committee of the Coalition. After the approval from both the Steering Committee and the General Assembly, it will be in every activity of the coalition.

Role Context

  • The consultant is expected to address at least the following issues through developing the Logo and Visual identities:
  • Identifying and understand the major objective of the coalition (working toward achieving gender inclusive national dialogue);
  • Detailed procedures and features of the logo and visual identity in mitigating how to design an efficient way to address  gender sensitive national dialogue;
  • Show the role and status of women in such practices, and its analysis in light of being suitable for the meaningful participation of women at all levels;
  • Ways to promote, adopt, or improve the positive practices of inclusion to partake in gender inclusive dialogues

Expected Results and Deliverables

  • Prepare a draft of both design report for the assignments,
  • Hold inception meeting with TIMRAN Staff and the steering committee.
  • Develop a high-quality logo for the coalition
  • Develop a visual identity or branding (including but not limited to letterhead, PowerPoint template, template for social media posts) for the coalition,
  • Revise and finalize the drafts of the design based on feedbacks,
  • Present and sensitize to the steering committee and the general assembly.

Time Frame

The assignment will be implemented over a period of 3 weeks starting from the signing of the contract. The consultant is expected to start on October 5 and submit the first draft on/before October 25, 2022. The final design shall be submitted before, October 30, 2022, after the inputs from TIMRAN staff, the steering committee, coalition members and other stakeholders at a validation workshop.

Duration: 3 weeks (October 10 – October 30, 2022)

Job Requirements

TIMRAN is looking for a consultant or a firm with the following qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in conducting Designing and graphics with demonstrated capability working on gender issues
  • Notable experience in designing logos for various organizations
  • Proven experience in developing graphics of visual identities
  • Demonstrated experience in developing various supportive documents
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-reliant in computer skills
