Job Description

Job Summary

The Driver is responsible for driving assigned vehicles to transport Pact personnel and goods. She/he takes care of the passengers, the property in his/her custody and ensures that the vehicle is insured and properly maintained. She/he also reports accidents immediately to the supervisor.

Specific Functions And Responsibilities:

Responsibility #1 Transporting persons and goods

  • Drives assigned vehicles for transporting authorized personnel, delivery and collection of mails, documents and others
  • Make sure that pact staff requests the service by Transport Service request form
  • Make sure that external people assigned to be transported with Pact vehicle for project activities sign Transport Service request form
  • Fill the log sheet and request travellers to sign
  • Log official trips as per the Pact’s rules, including daily mileage, fuel consumption
  • Ensure vehicle is insured
  • Ensures that her/his license is renewed
  • Picks up or meets persons according to appointment request or schedule
  • Undertakes field trips driving for staff and visitors
  • Meets and assists staff/ visitors on arrival and departures at airports as required
  • Prepare pay sheets and make sure it is approved to make settlements of the advance.

Responsibility #2 Maintenance of vehicles

  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the car, checks oil, water, brakes, tires
  • Takes responsibility for the safety of the vehicle assigned, tools and accessories
  • Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and usable at all times
  • Follows up maintenance need of the vehicle and promptly reports back to immediate supervisor
  • Makes sure that he/she drives with in the speed limits set by Pact and according to traffic regulations
  • Observes the host country’s traffic regulations
  • Makes sure to wear seat belt and always ask and make sure that his/her passengers wear seat belt
  • Ensures that vehicle is equipped with First Aid Kit & fire extinguishers and capable to provide first aid services
  • Ensures validity of his/her driving license
  • Performs minor repairs and ensures the safety of the car at all times.

Responsibility #3 Reporting

  • Reports accidents timely to her/his supervisor and to nearby Police stations
  • Make sure that the accidents are reported to Insurance Company through the Finance and Admin officer.

Responsibility #4 Others

  • Make cash disbursements whenever required for mass meetings and workshops at sites which are at a distant form the project office and difficult to be reached by the project Cashier/Secretary
  • Performs local purchase activities whenever assigned following the purchase procedure of Pact Ethiopia
  • Facilitate the service of tea and coffee during workshop and meetings
  • Takes photographs during mass meetings and workshops
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
  • Acts in accordance with Pact policies (such as no-guns allowed in the vehicle) and is able to clearly explain policies to community and government representatives

Working Conditions And Level Of Travel Required

  • The position is based in Addis Ababa.

Reports To: Administration And Logistics Assistant

Job Requirements

Person Specification

Education

  • Grade 8 complete and 3rd grade driving license

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in car driving.

Technical Skills.

  • Trustworthy and reliable;
  • Valid driving license and good driving record;
  • Physical fitness and willingness to work under pressure, possible long working hours and frequent field travel;
  • Proven integrity and good human relation.
  • Basic mechanical skill to be able to do small repairs if necessary;
  • Competency in local languages, basic spoken English
