About the Job

Background

Reach for Change, a non-profit organization founded in Sweden in 2010, has been supporting social entrepreneurs at all stages of development and working to improve the wider ecosystem for social entrepreneurship. Over the past decade, Reach for Change has supported over 2,000 Change Leaders across 18 countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia, who have in turn reached 4.7 million children and youth.

In 2024, Reach for Change partnered with the Mastercard Foundation to launch a significant new initiative in Ethiopia. The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship is a 3-year catalytic acceleration program designed to bridge the education gap for underserved young people in Ethiopia. Through this collaboration, Reach for Change will support the scaling of three cohorts, each comprising 12 EdTech enterprises, specifically targeting initiatives that enhance inclusive learning in Ethiopia.

The support provided to the EdTech Fellows will include coaching, funding, networking, and post-acceleration support. Additionally, the program will focus on cultivating cross-sector collaborations and enhancing Ethiopia’s national ecosystem and policy for EdTech products and solutions. The program’s goal is to address the challenge of access to quality education in Ethiopia, where many children and youth from underserved communities still face barriers. By leveraging the power of technology, local EdTech entrepreneurs have a unique opportunity to develop inclusive education solutions that cater to the diverse needs of the Ethiopian educational sector.

For the first cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship in 2024, Reach for Change has selected 12 EdTech fellows, 9 located in Addis and the remaining 3 in the regions. As part of this initiative, Reach for Change is seeking a skilled, knowledgeable, experienced, and highly capable professional consultant to provide support to the EdTech fellows in refining their effective solutions and aligning with the Ethiopian educational curriculum and learning goals. The consultant will also be expected to conduct a quick assessment of the EdTech solutions, along with the Ethiopian Educational system, and present the findings and recommendations for the program team.

Objective:

The objective of this consultancy work is to provide strategic guidance to the EdTech fellows supported by Reach For Change so as to ensure their solutions are aligned with the Ethiopian educational system; including curriculum, accreditation, standard and learning goals. The consultant will assess the extent to which the EdTech solutions are fit to purpose, provide recommendations, and facilitate discussions for a better integration of the solutions within the local education system. Moreover, the consultant will do a quick inventory/desk review and prepare a brief written summary of EdTech and related policy and guidelines of the Ministry, so as to update the fellow and program team.

Duration

  •  The consultancy is expected to last in 6 weeks from the date of contractual agreement.
