Job Summary
We are seeking to hire a dedicated Communications Assistant for the RMNCAYH-N program to join our team. The Communications Assistant will support both internal and external communications, write and disseminate publicity materials, and assist in event production at the national and regional levels where our projects are implemented. Responsibilities include reviewing, printing, and distributing the program’s promotional materials and event documentation.
Additionally, the assistant will regularly update the RMNCAYH-N section of Amref’s website. To succeed in this role, you should be a creative thinker with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong writing and event documentation abilities. A bachelor’s degree in communications or equivalent experience in a similar role is strongly desired.
Main Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with project leads/managers and the M&E team to craft compelling narratives that showcase the program’s impact, capturing success stories and best practices that resonate with diverse audiences.
- Partner with project leads/managers and the communications team to develop effective communication strategies for projects within the RMNCAYH-N program.
- Support project-level and partner events by preparing, scheduling, and following up on event calendars. Capture highlights in writing, photos, and videos for web and social media sharing, both independently and in collaboration with the communications team.
- Work with the Communications Manager to create communication and outreach materials that highlight Amref’s impact, elevate its profile, and engage diverse audiences, including donors, partners, national and local governments, media, and the general public.
- Assist program teams in developing innovative outreach materials related to implementation, including briefers, success stories, blog posts, brochures, fact sheets, banners, and training materials.
- Coordinate, design, edit, and produce various communication products, including quarterly newsletters and posts for social media platforms.
- Review all project communications to ensure alignment with Amref’s branding and communication strategies, maintaining high quality that meets donor requirements.
- Create standardized communication templates for projects, including success stories, external communications, project profiles, and other materials.
- Create and curate engaging content for social media platforms, monitoring channels for engagement and responding as necessary.
- Assist in crafting internal newsletters or bulletins to keep staff informed about organizational updates and achievements, and organize internal meetings or workshops focused on communication best practices.
- Design visually appealing graphics and materials for presentations, reports, or social media posts using design software.
- Manage content on the organization’s website, ensuring information is current and relevant.
- Develop promotional strategies for upcoming events, including email campaigns and online advertisements.
About You
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
- Having masters degree is a plus
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Social media skills
- Proficiency in English
- Previous experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role is preferred.
- Familiarity with healthcare sectors is a plus.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent oral and written skills, with ability to compose engaging and accurate content/stories
- Attention to detail
- Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team
- Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator is an asset
- Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts
- Understanding of digital marketing concepts and strategies
- Good problem solver
- Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction
