Ayuda en Acción Foundation is a secular, non-partisan international non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in 1981 with a global commitment to fight against poverty, inequality, and exclusion. Its headquarters is in Madrid, Spain. The organisation operates in 20 countries within Africa, South and Central America and Europe (Spain, Portugal). In Ethiopia, Ayuda en Acción has supported a wide range of humanitarian and development interventions through local and international partners between 2002 and 2017; and as an independent country programme since 2018. Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia aspires to tackle poverty, inequalities and exclusion that perpetuate poverty. The organisation places women, men, girls, and boys at the centre of its efforts in the country, giving an impetus to strengthen people and institutions capacities to meaningfully contribute to development and dignified life of all in Ethiopia. To achieve its mission, Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia has worked in the regions of Afar, Oromia and SNNPR in close cooperation with local and international partners public agencies, academic and private sectors.

Objectives

Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia invites competent and qualified candidates to apply for the vacant position of a consultant for communication specialist for its National Office.

The communications specialist will provide communications support to Ayuda en Acción Ethiopia to formulate and disseminate well-articulated information about its interventions’ work, achievement and impact at local, regional, national and international levels, as well as promoting knowledge and information processes of the country program. Under the guidance of the Country Director and program staff, the Communication consultant will develop and implement both a communication strategy and a plan, in line with the institutional strategies at national and global levels.

These objectives will be achieved through communication and media management; branding, marking and publications; and capacity and advising role.

Responsibilities

  1. Communications and Media Management
  • Develop and implement a communication strategy and a detailed action plan, in line with organizational strategic objectives,
  • Develop quality communication materials through innovative and multimedia approach to ensure proper institutional communication, including organization’s work and impact related materials. Materials will include, among others, photographic and video reports, case stories, campaigns, newsletters, flyers, brochures etc.
  • Support AeAE team to lead, coordinate, document and share the implementation of the programs, see all internal and external communications of the organization, ensuring its branding and messages to be consistent and engaging.
  • Manage the country program website and social medias, ensuring quality of each publication in line with institutional standards and regular, coordinated and rigorous update
  • Provide guidance on crisis communication strategies and support during emergencies.
  • Contribute to raising the profile of Ayuda en Acción in Ethiopia in general and by sharing and promoting the program works with a range of internal and external stakeholders and target audiences through a variety of communications channels.
  • In collaboration with Ayuda en Acción HQ communications team the consultant provides information regularly to increase the visibility of Ethiopia in Ayuda en Acción international communications channels and share that with social media outlets and respond to the demands of the HQ communication team.

Branding, Marking and Publications

  • Oversee, review and edit as well as provide advice on all communications materials reports and other documents produced by Ayuda en Acción and implementing to be at the higher standards both in language and contents as well as consistent in branding and messaging.

Capacity Building and Advising Roles

  • Consult and advise the country director, program teams and field staff in dealing with local and international media requests and inquiries of the programs.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to AeAE team and partners on communication skills, knowledge and techniques so they can support effectively any relevant communicational action.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and experience:

  • BA/master’s degree in communications, management, international development, Economics or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar communications role, within international development organizations.

Skills and competencies:

  • Proven ability to organize, summarize, and rewrite technical information for non-expert audiences.
  • Ability in designing different communication materials.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and training in communication
  • Familiarity with layout designs as well as managing websites and social media.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and use good judgment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in teams in a multi-cultural context.
