Project Overview

The Akaki International Stadium is embarking on Phase III of its development; a critical stage focused on elevating the facility to meet and exceed global benchmarks. This phase encompasses the meticulous construction and integration of a state-of-the-art running track, advanced floodlighting systems, FIFA-certified main football pitches, cutting-edge stadium technology, and all associated infrastructure. General Requirements for the Position

Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence, a collaborative spirit, and an unwavering focus on quality and safety. All roles require excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex project environment. Experience with large-scale international construction projects is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

Contract Engineer:

  • Develop and manage comprehensive procurement strategies, including detailed contracting and subcontracting plans for all specialized works within Phase III of the stadium project.
  • Lead the preparation, negotiation, and administration of complex contracts and subcontracts, ensuring strict compliance with company policies, relevant laws, and international contracting standards.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments throughout the procurement process, identifying potential issues and recommending mitigation strategies to optimize value and minimize project exposure.
  • Provide expert technical and commercial guidance to project teams and stakeholders, collaborating to resolve contracting-related issues efficiently.
  • Maintain a robust library of contracting documentation, templates, and best practices, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in procurement processes.

Quantity Estimator:

  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and plans to accurately determine the scope of work and material requirements for running tracks, floodlighting, main football pitches, stadium technology, and related works.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including quantities of materials, labor, and equipment, by obtaining competitive quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop comprehensive bills of quantities (BOQ), schedules, and cost plans, providing value engineering input to identify cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining quality and scope.
  • Assist with tender preparation, bid evaluation, and contract awards, ensuring alignment with project budgets and objectives.
  • Continuously update estimates as project plans evolve and meticulously track costs throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Advise on environmentally sustainable design and construction practices, integrating cost-effective sustainable material choices and methods into estimates.
About You

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering (Civil, Construction Engineering/ Technology/Management), or Quantity Surveying.
  • Minimum of 7 years of combined experience in contract management and quantity estimation for large-scale construction projects, with a strong preference for international stadium or sports infrastructure experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cost estimation methods, statistics, EBCS/ESI building codes, accounting, and engineering economics.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, procurement regulations, and international contracting standards.
  • Exceptional negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and estimation software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Procore, Primavera).
  • Certifications such as Certified Professional Constructor (CPC), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or Project Management Professional (PMP) are highly advantageous.2RICS accreditation for Quantity Surveyors is also highly valued.
