About the Job

We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Mid-Level Electrical Engineer with 2 to 5 years of active site work experience to join our team. This role focuses on the execution, supervision, and rigorous quality assurance of urban infrastructure projects, corridor development, and architectural landscape lighting.

The ideal candidate bridges the gap between design software and physical installation. We are looking for a hands-on professional who possesses practical site experience, understands how to enforce strict quality standards on active jobsites, and leverages modern engineering software and smart technologies to add distinct value to our projects.

Key Responsibilities

1. On-Site Quality Assurance (QA) & Execution

  • Quality Inspection & Audits: Perform continuous on-site quality control inspections to ensure all electrical installations conform exactly to approved blueprints, technical schematics, and client specifications.
  • Defect Rectification: Screen, identify, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues early on-site; coordinate immediate corrective actions on infrastructure works before final inspections.
  • Standards Compliance: Cross-verify that all workmanship, earthing systems, and cable routing meet both local safety codes (EEU standards) and international regulations.
  • Material Verification: Inspect incoming procurement materials and electrical components against technical data sheets to verify quality before site installation.

2. Site Operations, Field Experience & Supervision

  • Daily Site Supervision: Manage day-to-day operations on active project sites, translating engineering drawings into practical field instructions for a team of 7 electricians and technicians.
  • Task Allocation: Distribute daily workloads efficiently, tracking labor output, electromechanical assembly (such as distribution and control boards), and highly technological field installations.
  • Progress & Material Tracking: Monitor daily progress, maintain site logs, track project milestones against schedules, and manage material inventories/tool requisitions to minimize waste.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Attend site meetings and actively coordinate with clients, consultants, general contractors, and utility representatives to resolve real-time physical bottlenecks.

3. Engineering Design, Software & Technological Innovation

  • Design Support & Review: Review and analyze technical drawings, design layouts, and power distribution networks for streetscapes and landscape lighting systems.
  • Software Application: Use engineering and lighting software (such as AutoCAD, Dialux/Dialux EVO) to evaluate lighting uniformity, load calculations, and energy configurations.
  • Smart Technology Deployment: Assist in integrating new technologies into physical sites, including energy-efficient LED drivers, automated control panels, and smart lighting systems.
  • As-Built Documentation: Maintain accurate, real-time “As-Built” drawings and technical logs as site modifications occur.

4. Safety & Commissioning Support

  • Safety Briefings: Conduct mandatory daily safety briefings and strictly verify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance for the site team.
  • Testing & Diagnostics: Conduct fundamental diagnostics including load testing, grounding verification, and panel assessments.
  • System Commissioning: Support full system testing and commissioning, preparing all technical paperwork and logs required to certify that works are ready for final inspection.
About You
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of solid field-based site experience. Direct exposure to corridor development, street lighting, landscape lighting, or related public/private infrastructure works in urban environments like Addis Ababa is highly valued.
  • Role Level: Mid-Level (Strong capability to work independently on-site without requiring senior-level executive duties).
  • Technical & Quality Focus: A sharp eye for structural and electrical installation quality, with practical knowledge of site safety protocols and troubleshooting.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD and lighting design software (e.g., Dialux). Eagerness to adopt new engineering technologies and software tools.
  • Communication: Fluent communication skills to collaborate effectively with field crew, consultants, and project managers.
