Biodiversity Forestry Program (BFP)

The Biodiversity & Forestry Programme is now in its third and last phase and focuses on consolidating, intensifying and institutionalizing the processes and achievements reached by the previous two phases, while strengthening partners’ capacities at the local, regional and federal level. The institutions responsible for protected area and forest management, in particular the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority (EWCA) are supported in capacity and skill development, as well as in improving their monitoring and knowledge management by using digital solutions. BFP has started a stock take on products it has produced.  The internship assignment is to assist the programme and EWCA to assure a proper handing over of documentation produced over the past ten years. In addition, other documentation relevant for EWCA is subject of possible handing over. The reception and proper integration at EWCA’s library and possibly, various technical departments (research & monitoring, community conservation, park development,  ) will be assured. Further assistance will be provided by building upon the ‘stock take’ that BFP has initiated to assure that  ‘lessons learnt’ during the past 10 years and related documentation, will find lasting physical as well as digital space (e.g. website) at EWCA headquarters.

 The internship will last for two months from the 1st of May 2024 to 30st of June 2024 with a possible extension until 31st July 2024.

The tasks of the internship 

 Organize handing over of BFP documentation to EWCA

  • Based on the ongoing stock taking at BFP, register all documents produced during the 10 years of BFP in partnership with EWCA (Organizational Development, HR, management planning, community conservation, digital tools such as SMART, etc.)
  • Assist the handing over of all documentation to EWCA, in particular by assisting EWCA’s library staff in reorganizing (parts of) the library to accommodate the products of supporting projects.
  • In cooperation with EWCA staff, propose and prepare those documents that could be integrated in the newly developed EWCA’s website.
  • Assure that the administrative GIZ requirements of handing over documentation and materials to partners have been fulfilled.

 Assist BFP-programme staff in compiling lessons learnt relevant for EWCA.

  • Develop with relevant GIZ/GFA/EWCA staff the main criteria for ‘ lessons learnt’.
  • List major interventions with and for EWCA (date, persons involved, main purpose), according to those criteria.
  • Reach out to EWCA / BFP colleagues, to develop the subsequent ‘lesssons-learnt’.

Support assistance in communication (to EWCA and BFP)  

  • Support in Amharic translations of verbal communication during events whenever needed.
  • Support the team with drafting communication products.

Work with the programme according to rising needs and interests

  •  Support the technical team with any other assignment as needed, contributing to the overall successful closing of the programme.

Job Requirements

Required qualifications, competences, and experience.

  • In order to qualify for an internship, applicants must be currently enrolled at a college or university and be in their final year or have graduated no longer than 6 months from a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of application.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must have at least a B.Sc. in library science, or alternatively wildlife management, natural resource, forestry, environmental science, or other related fields.

Professional experience Other knowledge, additional competences

  •  Very good knowledge of librarian and documentation techniques.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Very good English and Amharic language skills, both verbally and written.
  • Interested in nature conservation /  natural resource management.
  • Dedication to work in development cooperation.
  • Stress tolerant and open-minded.
  • Strong knowledge of MS packages (Excel, Word, and other MS applications), organizational skills.
  • Organized, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environments and being held accountable for meeting ambitious targets
