Job Description
Project Accountant Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor or other project managers as required.
- Reviewing budgets, including staffing, work plans, and fee structures.
- Providing project coordinator and clients with timely financial reports and budgets, as well as project forecasts.
- Preparing pre-billing reports for project managers to review.
- Preparing actual costs, working capital, and tax reports.
- Monitoring receivable income and supporting project coordinators with collections.
- Issuing invoices and purchase orders, as well as paying consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills.
- Ensuring a steady cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner.
- Updating contracts according to client requirements and reporting associated budget amendments.

Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong accounting software proficiency like QuickBooks and Peachtree which is essential for managing project finances.
- Familiarity with financial reporting standards like IFRS which is necessary for accurate financial reporting.
- Excellent spreadsheet skills (Expertise in Microsoft Excel) which is crucial for financial modeling, data analysis, and budgeting.
- Proficient in data entry and financial calculations: Accuracy and efficiency in data entry and financial calculations are vital for maintaining project financial records.
- The ability to manage incoming invoices and outgoing payments for the project.
- Reconciling bank statements to ensure accurate project financial records.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy of financial data in project accounting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate financial information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences is essential.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, or similar profession.
- Professional accounting certification like CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is highly desirable and can give you a competitive edge.
- 3-5 years’ experience as a project accountant, or similar position.
