OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Strengthen the role of the WCO by providing technical support to Ministry of Health and other implementing partners to strengthen nutrition surveillance system and implementation of the national nutrition strategy to improve maternal, infant and young child nutrition.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will be expected to: •Provide technical support for the development of a national framework for strengthening and harmonizing the national nutrition surveillance system•Support the Ministry of Health in efforts of seeking multisectoral collaboration, including Donors, for operationalization of the nutrition surveillance system •Support the effective coordination/integration of the nutrition system into the national health information system•Support the development of capacity building training in nutrition surveillance•Support advocacy efforts at country level for nutrition data use in policy formulation, programme planning and monitoring•Provide support to Ministry of Health for the implementation of action plan for improving the quality and availability of routine data for nutritional surveillance •Monitor and evaluate implementation of activities to strengthen the national nutrition surveillance system•Provide regular progress report on the implementation status of the nutrition activities and more especially linked to the EC project. Support close collaboration with UNICEF colleagues and other stakeholders engaged in the implementation of the EC project to strengthen the national nutrition surveillance system, including providing timely progress reports•Perform any other duties as required for the success of the Nutrition program

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Nutrition, International Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Nutrition policy or development studies, Health & Nutrition Education, Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, or other closely related field of study to nutritional issues.
Desirable: Post graduate degree in Public Health or Epidemiology

Experience

Essential: At least 5 years’ experience in national planning, implementing, monitoring and supervision of nutrition activities, including nutrition surveillance or health information systems.
Desirable: Experience in working with bilateral or multilateral Organizations at country level. Proven competency in documentation of events and evaluation of programmes; data organization and analysis, including application of appropriate software for data analysis.

•Excellent knowledge in nutrition programmes; Proven competence in appropriate training skills and/or epidemiological research; ability to establish and maintain efficient working relationships’•Excellent Knowledge and demonstrated ability to write technical reports; ability to motivate and guide development of capacity at national level; ability to carry out advocacy and communicate nutrition messages

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 27,876 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
