KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis (TB), still the deadliest infectious disease in the world. KNCV is an international center of expertise for TB control that promotes effective, efficient, innovative, and sustainable tuberculosis control strategies in a national and international context.  We are an organization of passionate TB professionals, including doctors, researchers, training experts, nurses and epidemiologists. We aim to stop the spread of the worldwide epidemic of TB and to prevent the further spread of drug-resistant TB.

 Background

Ethiopia is a high TB burden country with an estimated third of estimated TB cases missing each year. A high proportion of people with diabetics and TB remain undiagnosed in Ethiopia or are being diagnosed at a late stage. This is mainly caused by a lack of early detection of the diseases, leading more severe disease presentations, higher mortality, and higher cost on treatment.

KNCV is implementing an TB-Diabetes bi-directional screening project to identify the missed cases of TB among high-risk groups and identify diabetes among TB patients in Addis Ababa.

Purpose of the Position

KNCV Is looking for 2 consultants for a two-month period to work in the selected TB/DM project sites in Addis Ababa.

Position in the organization

The consultant will report to the TB Officer and work closely together with the M&E Consultant.

Duties and responsibilities

  • On-site supervision of the bi-directional TB-DM screening and diagnosis approach (symptom, chest x-ray, GeneXpert testing, glycemic testing)
  • Ensure the establishment of proper linkage of patients with TB/DM for integrated care through agreed upon referral mechanism between the two programs
  • Carry out weekly frequent visits to the sites and monitor practice of bi-directional TB/DM screening.
  • Ensure the documentation of activities done in both programs in TBDM Sites.
  • Support data collection and ensure data quality.
  • Ensure the use of recording and reporting formats in both programs.
  • Conduct qualitative data collection through in-depth interviews and group discussions
  • Maintain close communication related to the project implementation with facilities and sub-city health department

Job Requirements

Who are we looking for?

  • BSc in health- related field plus master’s in public health.
  • Minimum 5 years, post qualification experience including working in TB control at national or sub-national level (regional/zonal level)
  • Experience on operational research related to TB with particular focus on TB/DM
  • Experience in qualitative data collection
  • Knowledge of basic principles of TB-DM interaction, health facility active TB case finding, and the challenges associated with TB case finding among key populations in high load health facilities.
  • Sound knowledge on Microsoft word and Excel

Behavioral competencies and skills

  • Good interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partners at all levels (NGOs and local community-based organizations).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Amharic and the local language of the project site is mandatory.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to cope with a demanding work environment and to organize and prioritize workload.
