JOB SUMMARY

The Health and Nutrition Technical Advisor serves as the primary source of health and nutrition related technical support for Samaritan’s Purse (SP) Ethiopia ongoing and upcoming health programs, and interfaces between the field health staff and SP International Health Unit (IHU) technical team. The position works in collaboration with Chief of Party (CoP), Area Coordinators (ACs), Senior Programs Manager and other members of the programs team (M&E Manager, Program Development Officer, Emergency Manager, etc.) and liaison with Senior leadership team for major programmatic decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership to ensure all health and nutrition programs align with national policies, humanitarian standards, and global best practices.
  • Deliver timely, needs‑based health and nutrition technical support across all program areas and regions, including guidance on service quality monitoring and program implementation in consultation with DCD PS.
  • Collaborate with Chief of Party (CoP), Area coordinators (ACs) and field teams to address technical inquiries, training needs, report reviews, and other support requests.
  • Conduct health and nutrition monitoring assessment and generate quality improvement report/ action plans in coordination with the field team
  • Provide technical advice, technical expertise, and support to the field and the health and nutrition staff in the field
  • Coordinate with IHQ technical advisors and help contextualize their guidance for field implementation.
  • Coordinate and network with national and regional health authorities and other NGOs
  • Support field teams in monitoring program performance, documenting lessons learned, capturing impact stories, and preparing high‑quality reports in line with SP requirements.
  • Represent SPE in national and regional health cluster meetings and ensure active participation of field staff in relevant coordination forums.
  • Oversee program design and implementation, strengthen staff capacity, and support evidence‑based responses to public health and emergency needs.
  • Regularly analyze national health and nutrition trends and integrate findings into assessments, planning, and program improvement.
  • Lead the design of innovative, high‑impact health and nutrition programs, proposals, and technical budgets in collaboration with technical and implementation teams.
  • Conduct regular field visits to provide ongoing technical support to all health and nutrition program staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
About You

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • MD, Master of Public health, Epidemiology, Nutrition, or equivalent, if possible, clinical training is preferred
  • 6 – 7 years’ experience in the Ethiopian health sector, including clinical experience and at least two years’ experience in the field. Experience inprimary health care, public health emergency management (PHEM), child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, surveillance and USG programing has an added value.
  • The position requires 70% traveling to the field.

LANGUAGE

  • Proficiency in English and Amharic
  • Knowledge of the regional language required
  • Knowledge of any other national language is a plus
