REACH Ethiopia is a nonprofit organization registered as an Ethiopian Residents Charity, dedicated to community development through innovative projects. Since 2013, it has implemented community-based TB care and integrated health service projects in Sidama, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Tigray, parts of Oromia and Afar Regions. Currently, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus, REACH Ethiopia is implementing various projects including new project called USAID- Urban TB LON-II.

The USAID URBAN TB LON II Project is an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing the urban tuberculosis (TB) challenge in Ethiopia. Focused on the city administrations of Addis Ababa, Shaggar, Harar, and Diredawa, the project’s primary goals include identifying missed TB cases, delivering patient-centered care, and fostering innovative solutions to combat TB. This project is pivotal in enhancing TB detection and treatment, with an overarching aim to reduce TB prevalence and mortality in urban environments.

Position Summary:

The Addis Ababa City and Technical Coordinator is a key position within the USAID URBAN TB LON II Project. This role involves the coordination and oversight of project activities within Addis Ababa, ensuring alignment with the overall project strategy and objectives. The coordinator will be responsible for facilitating collaboration with local stakeholders, providing technical support, and ensuring the effective implementation of TB control interventions in the city. Key Responsibilities:

Project Coordination and Management:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of project activities in Addis Ababa.
  •  Coordinate with local health authorities, NGOs, community groups, and other stakeholders to ensure effective project execution.

Technical Support and Guidance:

  • Provide technical expertise and support for TB control strategies and interventions.
  • Ensure the integration of innovative and evidence-based practices in project activities.
  • Dedicate 30% of their effort to coordinate the overall activities of the prime and sub-recipients at city administration level. The technical coordinators will provide technical and administrative guidance to satellite teams of the prime and sub-recipients.
  •  Dedicate 40% of their efforts in support of high load health facilities (HCs & hospitals) to support TB clinics to properly identify and manage TB cases, to improve quality of TB treatment and care, ensure implementation of standardized data registration, analysis, and interpretation and to assist in the quarterly collection and reporting of data through dhis2 system and Activity Kobo system.
  • The remaining 30% of their efforts will be vested to support private facility and will also represent the Activity at regional level TWG’s and forums as needed

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with local government officials, health facilities, and community leaders.
  •  Represent the project in local meetings and forums, advocating for TB control efforts.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Monitor the progress of project activities in Addis Ababa, ensuring alignment with the project’s goals and objectives.
  •  Contribute to the preparation of reports and updates for the Deputy COP/Technical Director.

Capacity Building:

  •  Organize and facilitate training sessions and workshops for local partners and health workers.
  •  Strengthen the capacity of local stakeholders in TB prevention, detection, and treatment.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure the quality and effectiveness of TB control measures and interventions in Addis Ababa.
  •  Address and resolve challenges related to project implementation.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, Social Sciences, or a related field; master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public health program management, ideally with a focus on infectious diseases such as TB.
  • Deep understanding of the health system and community dynamics in Addis Ababa.
  •  Proven ability to work effectively with government bodies, local communities, and health facilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Fluent in English and local languages.

Experience:

  • experience in public health programming and a strong understanding of the local context in Addis Ababa.
