Duty Station:                             Wayu Tuka (East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region)

Duration of Contract:               One-year contract, Renewable (with 60 working days probation period)

 Job Summary

The gender officer is responsible for the overall coordination, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the gender components of the Nature Positive Food Systems (Nature+) project.  The gender officer   will be emphasis on GBA+ assessments in the beginning and with an interval and incorporating the GBA+ assessment results in project plan, and implementing and monitoring to ensure that the project is gender responsive. The position holder will ensure that all the three project pillars are implemented towards achieving gender responsive outcomes and the intended goal of the project.

Principal Responsibilities

1.     Provide advice and contribute on targeting of women and other marginalized groups

2.     Conduct periodical gender analysis considering other marginalized groups to identify their specific needs

3.     Gather and document project ideas related to Gender and marginalized groups and feed into the organizational planning processes

4.     Provide technical advice to the project manager and other staff in the area of gender and marginalized groups inclusion

5.     Ensure that outputs and outcomes indicators are gender responsive

6.     Promote gender integration at all stages of the project

7.     Ensure that data disaggregated by sex, age and other marginalized groups (ethnic groups, religion, language, etc) in survey and all monthly, quarterly and annual program activity reports

8.     Ensure gender activities are implemented as per the Annual Activity and Budget Plan approved by the project;

9.     Work closely with the Agriculture and Livelihood Technical sector on how to improve women economic and social empower

10.   Identify capacity gaps of FH, government and other partner organizations staff and provide trainings based on the identified gaps

11.   Actively develop networks and partnerships with internal and external actors’ including local government offices

12.   Participate in relevant partners meetings to collaborate and share learnings for better performance and benefit targeted communities

13.    Cooperate with partners on assessing GBV prevalence and its influence on the life of the community and work closely with relevant organizations on addressing GBV

14.   Facilitate the establishment of dialogue groups to contribute for transformation of negative traditional culture and norms which prevailed and affects community’s life

15.   Prepare quality  progress reports (monthly, quarterly and annual) and submit on the due date

16.   Based on the annual activity and budget plan, make regular field visit to beneficiary households and furnish monitoring reports to the project manager for timely decision making.

17.   Produce case studies, best practices and success stories regularly and submit to the line manager and other relevant department

18.   Actively engaged on end line evaluation  to generate and document lessons learnt and success of women and marginalized groups.

Gender Responsibility

⮚  Be aware of the stereotypes about women’s and men’s capacities, and discuss how they influence staff, in assigning responsibility, and in managing resources at unit and organization level.

⮚  Be able to describe how gender issues relate to one’s job responsibilities and how gender equity can be promoted through the execution of those responsibilities.

⮚ Be familiar with the local Gender Focal Point(s), and go to her/him to learn more about gender issues, or when there is a gender grievance or harassment issue to resolve

⮚ Within each project and department, discuss FH’s Gender & Diversity and Sexual Harassment and sexual exploitation Policies, so that all staff are conversant with them.

⮚ Refrain from any comments or gestures that indicate prejudicial views of female staff, especially female supervisors.

⮚ In each Project and Head Office, ask women staff what changes would make it more “gender-friendly”, organization and implement the recommendations

Safety & Security Responsibility

⮚   Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security policy of FH. Lapses in safe conduct can jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff.

⮚ Every FHE staff member has an obligation to learn and understand the security situation where they are located.

⮚ Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security.  This includes, but not limited to, personal safety, road safety, etc.

⮚  Has a responsibility to become familiar to social, cultural and other associated features of their duty stations;

⮚  Abstain from inappropriate or offensive behavior that can put FHE in a difficult position, impair operations, and jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff of FHE.

⮚ All FHE staff should promotes safe conducts and exercises caution in all work activities; staff should accountable for own personal and professional actions and conduct;

Experience

⮚ 3 years related experience in a relevant position Preferably in INGO Setting

Education/Certifications

⮚ BA in Development & Gender Studies, Sociology or relevant field of study.

Distinguishing Competencies

⮚ Strong computer skill and knowledge in the area of MS word, MS Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint and email communication.

⮚ High level of initiative taking.

Language

⮚ Proficiency in both spoken and written English. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Knowledge of local language of the intervention area is preferred.
