Job Description

The Luminos Fund, an international nonprofit bringing education opportunities to the world’s most vulnerable children, seeks a Graphic Design Consultant to support the development of Teaching and Learning materials for the Luminos Ethiopia country program.
The Graphic Design Consultant will work with both the Ethiopia Programs team and the Luminos Teaching and Learning technical team to contribute to the design of user-friendly and culturally appropriate Teaching and Learning materials in multiple languages, including Teacher’s Guides, assessment tools, and short stories. This is a great opportunity for creative individuals looking to contribute their design skills to a mission-oriented organization and gain experience with a growing international development organization. Successful candidates will be able to navigate Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, and MS Word programs to deliver on time-sensitive projects competently, enjoy contributing their talents on diverse projects, and be passionate about education, children, storytelling, and design.
This consultant must be based in Ethiopia and fluent in both English and Amharic. Work is project-based with an anticipated time commitment of 15 non-consecutive days every 3 months until May 2025.
About the fund
The Luminos Fund (www.luminosfund.org) provides transformative education programs to thousands of out-of-school children, helping them to catch up to grade level, reintegrate into government schools, and prepare for lifelong learning. Working in partnership with community-based organizations, Luminos is scaling up its accelerated learning program to ensure all children have equal access to joyful, foundational learning, especially those shut out of education by crisis, poverty, or discrimination. To date, Luminos has helped over 277,787 children secure a second chance to learn. A registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, Luminos is working in Ethiopia, Ghana, Lebanon, Liberia, and The Gambia.

Duties and responsibility
  • In close collaboration with the Teaching and Learning team and the Luminos Communications team, develop a brand identity for Luminos Ethiopia Teaching and Learning materials that aligns with the Luminos organizational brand.
  • Create templates in Microsoft Word for lesson plans, Teacher’s Guides and other curriculum materials as needed.
  • Review and format large curriculum documents in Microsoft Word to ensure standardized spacing, font, layout, etc. and with an eye to enhancing user experience.
  • Design and update PowerPoint presentations for internal and external use.
  • Create a series of simple icons to be used across curriculum documents.
  • With guidance from curriculum developer, create graphics to explain primary level math concepts.

Job Requirements

Qualification
Required Experience
  • BA in Graphic Design, Communications, or a related field, and 1-2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience with Photoshop, In Design, and Canva and deep experience with MS Word applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • A demonstrated track record of producing well-formatted Word documents, PowerPoint decks, and graphics.
  • Superb writing, communication, and proofreading skills.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, international development, or the Ethiopian education sector and curriculum development.
  • Familiarity with multiple Ethiopian languages preferred.
