Save Your Holy Land Association (SYHLA) is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-political, and non-religious, humanitarian and development-oriented civil society organization working in Ethiopia for the improvement of the social, economic, and physical well-being of the youth in particular and the community in general. SYHLA, officially registered by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Authority for Civil Society Organizations, holds legal recognition as a local Civil Society Organization under Registration No. 0382 in Ethiopia funded in 2001. SYHLA strives to mobilize the community in health, education, humanitarian response & recovery, peacebuilding, climate change, and eco-tourism to bring about desirable changes in life and the environment in collaboration with individuals, communities, and institutions. Therefore, SYHLA seeks to employ qualified Peace project officers for its USAID/ESP-funded activity in Mekhoni and Yechila Abergele, Tigray Region. The Peace Project Officers will play a critical role in the successful implementation of the project activities aimed at limiting the impact of conflict in these communities.
Role Overview:
The primary responsibility of the peace project officers is to facilitate the successful implementation of project activities aimed at promoting peace building and conflict resolution within communities. He/ She works closely with management to ensure effective coordination and collaboration with stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and partner organizations. His/ Her role involves preparing, organizing, and executing project activities while adhering to the “do-no-harm” principle and promoting participatory approaches. Additionally, He/ She will be responsible for producing quality reports, representing the organization in various forums, and contributing to the dissemination of project achievements through media platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop Terms of Reference (TORs), selection criteria, and other relevant documents for project activities.
  2. Plan and organize project preparatory activities and implementation, such as MOU signings, workshops/events, dialogues, and culminating workshops.
  3. Facilitate and implement project activities in alignment with the project work plan and timeline.
  4. Manage the budget for the project activities in consultation with the finance and admin departments.
  5. Collaborate with management to ensure smooth coordination with stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and partner organizations.
  6. Coordinate with local associations, community representatives, and key actors to ensure their active involvement in project activities.
  7. Uphold the “do-no-harm” principle and promote participatory approaches in all aspects of activity implementation.
  8. Produce high-quality reports according to activity milestones.
  9. Represent the organization in meetings, workshops, and relevant forums as required.
  10. Contribute to the dissemination of project achievements through social media and local media agencies.
  11. Other roles and responsibilities are assigned by the immediate supervisor and the management.

Location: Mekhoni and Yechila Abergele (1 for each area), Tigray Region, Ethiopia
Duration: Fixed-Term Contract (4 months)
Reports To: Project Coordinator

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, social work, sociology, project management, peace studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in project implementation, preferably in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or community development.
  • Experience working in conflict-affected areas and familiarity with the context of the Tigray Region as well as the project implementation districts is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational, reporting, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, Tigrigna, and Amharic, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to use social media platforms for communication and advocacy.
